Skipper Martin Kamperhaug and his crew, sailing the iconic and refurbished 12 m racer Sverige in Norway.

On Sweden's National Day, June 6th, 2026, a unique initiative emerged to preserve and salute an iconic symbol of Swedish sailing heritage.

Bring Sverige Home is an initiative to ensure that one of Sweden’s most iconic sail racing yachts continues to inspire future generations of sailors in Sweden.

50 years ago, in 1976, the legendary 12-meter yacht Sverige was designed and built by sailing world champion Pelle Petterson. Later that year, she was christened by HM Queen Silvia of Sweden at the launch in Stenungsund, Sweden. She then became known around the world through competing in America's Cup in 1977 and 1980. Today, her home is in Norway after having been meticulously restored by the private shipyard MK Baat. She is now back to her original design and shape, with new sails and ready to begin her next chapter.

The ambition is simple: We are searching for the right custodian – a sailor, family, foundation, or consortium willing to take on stewardship and ownership of one of Sweden's most iconic sailing yachts and bring her back to Sweden. While at the same time supporting young sailors with a conscious donation.

Welcome to join the auction for Sweden and for youth: “Bring Sverige Home”

In a friendly Norwegian-Swedish alliance, this unique auction and its details are now being set. The campaign's official launch is today on the most Swedish day there is – Midsummer Eve, June 19th. The auction will open for bids* shortly (date to be determined) and the auction's final “Hammer Price” will be announced on August 22nd, in connection with the 12mR World Championship in Marstrand, Sweden (August 18-22nd, 2026).

The yacht Sverige S3 will be in Marstrand for display during the championships – not to compete in the races, but being ready to sail into its next chapter with the new custodian at the helm.
